Cohen, Smith & Company, P.A. was founded in 1986 through the joining of the practices of the late Robert L. Cohen, CPA (1934-1996) and George S. Smith, III, CPA. As a result of the merger, the newly created firm has served clients for over 40 years. Following the continued growth of the practice, in early 1993, the firm moved to its expanded location at 133 East Indiana Avenue. We believe our growth is directly attributable to our dedication to providing the highest quality, professional services attainable to our clients.

Cohen, Smith & Company, P.A. believes the key to providing sound accounting, tax and consulting services is a close, personal relationship with our clients. To this end, our office functions as a team, with individuals of all staff levels contributing to the overall client service. Concentrations in business consulting, accounting and auditing, corporate and individual taxation, business valuation and estates and trusts are all part of a structure that allows us to assist each client at every level.

Our organization typically consists of five certified public accountants actively engaged in providing professional accounting, tax, auditing and management consulting services. In addition to our professional staff, the firm includes six staff accountants and an administrative staff of three. In addition to the professional commitment of the firm's two principals (discussed in more detail in their profiles), both are very actively involved in leadership roles within our community.

Mr. Smith is currently President of College Arms Towers Board of Trustees, President of St. Barnabas Episcopal School Board of Trustees, Treasurer of Sands Theatre Center, Inc. (Athens Theater) and Treasurer of Bulldog Boosters, Inc. He is also formerly President of DeLand Rotary Club, Chairman of Enterprise Volusia, Director of Futures, Inc. and Trustee of the City of DeLand General Employees and DeLand Fire Department Pension Funds.

Mr. Brooks is currently a Trustee of DeLand Police Department Pension Fund, Director of the DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce. He is a Paul Harris Fellow member of the DeLand Breakfast Rotary Club and an active committee member of Volusia Honor Air. He is also formerly President of the DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce, President of DeLand Sunrise Kiwanis Club, Director of DeLand Breakfast Rotary Club, DeLand West Volusia Committee of 100, Director of the West Volusia YMCA and Leadership DeLand Graduate.
